“… the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text, and 90 per cent of the information transmitted to the brain is visual.”
International Forum of Visual Practitioners
No doubt, as a business owner you will be familiar with using imagery to promote your business. Images are great for quickly grabbing a potential customer’s attention, helping that person to visualise products in a way that text never can quite capture.
Using unique, on-brand imagery can help your business stand out from competitors and further increase visibility. Photographers offering Brand or Personal Brand photography services should work with you to create a range of images curated to your specific requirements and provide unique, high-quality images that you can use across your online and printed presence.

Having a range of personalised Brand specific imagery to use offers you an opportunity to market yourself in an alternative way and shows you are invested in your business.
Here I will dig deeper into what Personal Brand photography is and how Personal Brand images can be used in your business.
Above I mentioned Brand and Personal Brand photography. Here I am focusing on Personal Brand Photography. So, what is a Personal Brand?
A Personal Brand relates to a business where the brand’s identity extends beyond the business owner as an individual. We are all unique individuals with different attributes, and small business owners will often use their Personal Brand to target their ideal client, setting themselves apart from the competition.
Many will think of influencers when they consider Personal Brand, but it extends way beyond that. Consider Virtual Assistants, Pilates Teachers, Business Coaches, Personal Trainers, Artists, Wedding Celebrants, and Chefs, each has something to offer, but they may also have a unique skill that sets them apart from others in the same field, and they can, and should, use this to their benefit.
This is where Personal Brand Photography comes in. It should be unique to an individual and the focus should be on creating a set of images that tell the story of that specific Personal Brand. The images can be used to draw the attention to the business owner and the unique attributes that they bring to the table – their personality, style and values.
The type of images created in a Personal Brand shoot will be unique to the individual and will depend on their business type, but they will likely include headshots, lifestyle portraits, a range of images showing what they do best - behind the scenes images of them working, candid images, flat lays, and product images if appropriate. They can also include personal images – they don’t have to be just business focused.
Locations can be varied and may include a workspace, home, and outside locations. This depends on the individual and what they are looking to portray in the images. The location could also be a venue booked specifically for the shoot – if appropriate. Remember, this is Personal and there are no rules to follow, your photographer will take direction from your Brand.

The intention of a Personal Brand photography shoot is to curate the shoot showcasing an individual’s personality and values. The shoot location and images planned will all be aligned with this.
My Personal Brand shoots include a planning session where we will dig into everything about your Personal Brand. I like to understand how you want you and your business portrayed, the tools of your trade, your brand colours, outfit options, etc. By the time you get to the shoot you will know you can rely on me and this in turn will mean you can be relaxed and confident, able to be your authentic self, which will shine through in the images.
When marketing your business, it is so important to be visible and consistent with your content. Images from a Personal Brand shoot enable you to be just that. The shoot gives you a gallery of images ready to use across your brand.
Personalised images add a boost to your step – they enable you to market with confidence, which will come across in your messaging and increase your effectiveness further. This increased and personalised visibility will enable increased engagement, building trust and brand recognition.
As I quoted above ‘the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text, and 90 per cent of the information transmitted to the brain is visual’ – visibility is key, and a Personal Brand shoot gives you the tools to raise your visibility.
The images can be used across your website, including headers and banners, your social media profiles, banners as a presenter, and printed marketing materials, such flyers, brochures, and business cards. They add value and credibility to Blog posts and Articles. The ideal is that the images will help you to stand out from competitors and avoid instant click deletion in email newsletters and signatures.
